Police News

The Tamborine Mountain Police Division has seen some recent changes, a new face and plenty of activity.  The changes include a restructure of Police Districts and we are now in the Logan Police District.  This has no real impact on our community as such; it simply means that we report to superiors at the Logan Central Police Station.

The new face you may have seen around the traps is Senior Constable Grant MIERS.  Grant has been with us for some 3 months and we hope to keep him a lot longer, perhaps even permanently.  He is a very experienced officer and has eased the work load, amazing what ONE extra officer can achieve allowing improved shift coverage with rosters and increased work output.

There has been much talk amongst the community about increases in Break and Enters on the Mountain.   There is some truth in that we have seen these offences occur over certain periods in the last three months.  This type of activity is not inconsistent with previous trends, offenders target an area and conduct their criminal activity using a certain Modus Operandi (particular MO examples are: jemmy through back door or knocking on front door seeking directions or looking for lost cousin, dog etc.)

These offenders are often apprehended by Police down the track.  A recent success occurred as a result of good information received from members of the public and efficient Police work by Sgt Jones and his crew; two male offenders were apprehended at the bottom of the Hill.  These offenders were in a stolen car and pretended that their car had broken down after driving into a private driveway.  When confronted they took off but decent descriptions and the registration plate was obtained and this was enough for the boys to find them.  These offenders were responsible for offences not only on Tamborine Mountain but also across the Gold Coast.

This result highlights the need to be vigilant, and I must say people are more readily taking on board the need to ring the local station to provide information on suspect activity.  Keep it up; we are happy to follow up any information.  It may not always lead to arrests but it keeps everybody on alert.  We generally will get back to people with some form of results if they request it.

Take it easy out there people.
