I am sure everybody has recently seen the latest state figures in relation to crime with a general overall substantial reduction in serious crime. These figures cannot be adjusted or manipulated - the statistics are what they are. This, in my belief, is no doubt a result of the stringent new laws put in place to deal with criminal behaviour. Never forget, the laws do not impact on persons doing the right thing, people who go about their business in a law abiding manner have nothing to fear.
Of course, on Tamborine Mountain we have never really been subjected to the sort of thuggery and violent crime that has occurred elsewhere within the state because of criminal gangs, that does not mean there has not been isolated incidents over time and or persons of interest have not been amongst us, but as a rule this community is a quiet and peaceful paradise.
This can be put down to a number of reasons, these include the community looks after its own, people and watch out for each other. The community is consciously aware of others (in the main), our children are well educated and respectful. The local Police apply appropriate strategies mixing enforcement with common sense. There are also a number of community organisations, sporting clubs and groups that apply themselves in making the community a better place.
It is obvious the world is changing and growing and Tamborine Mountain will be subject to these changes; it is paramount that we retain these principles to ensure the continuation of our current living standards.
Locally things have been generally quiet, the crime stat sheets does show incidents of break and enter offences of late. In some of these offences there was little indication of thought or reason on behalf of the offenders as little or no property was stolen. There were some arrests and clear up regards a number of the listed offences.
I am sure you may have all observed an increase in Police numbers and patrols on Tamborine Mountain - we now have 8 full time officers and we cover day and afternoon/evening shifts seven days a week.
The office may not always be manned after 2.30pm weekdays but there are Police on the roads.
You may have also noticed an increase in Police on the push bikes, this is a twofold benefit - allowing us to conduct local business security checks in the CBD areas and to be a proactive presence within the area. This has been particularly acknowledged by tourists and visitors in a positive manner.
We are conducting our annual charity golf day on 12 September, 2014 at Tamborine Mountain Golf Course. This is a big day and generally well received with benefits going to Careflight and our local driver training initiative. Any support would be most welcome – play on the day, buy raffle tickets, attend the evening auction or donate goods or services that can assist in fundraising.
Take it easy out there, people.
