February 2015 - Area Coordinators Intro

Welcome to 2015 & our first newsletter for the year…

I cannot believe that already we are barrelling towards the middle of February!!

It has certainly been a long hot summer this year – and although the weather has recently turned cooler – it would not surprise to see the heat return…Hot weather can potentially mean the arrival of unwelcome visitors… Snakes and opportunistic thieves…

Vanessa Bull is our speaker at the upcoming meeting to talk on all things snakes… this was a very popular talk when last presented in 2013, so do come along and hear all about potential reptilian visitors – what to do and what not to do should you come up close and personal with them…

The other unwanted visitors that can take advantage of open windows and doors during periods of hot weather are thieves. Make sure that the weather conditions don’t assist opportunistic thieves - by ensuring that security doors are kept locked and that windows have security measures in place. By day and at night. Whether you are in your home or not…and even if you are at home, but outside, be vigilant!

The crime stats at the end of this newsletter would indicate a positive downturn in crime on the Mountain over recent months. Let’s hope the trend continues – if we each do our own part in protecting our vehicles, home and contents then we make it harder for the thieves to succeed…. And the Mountain becomes a less appealing target….

Sincere congratulations to Vanessa Bull on being awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her service to the Community. A most worthy recipient!

Until the next newsletter, stay safe!
