February 2015 - Police News

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year’s period. It has been a relatively quiet festive season in regards to break and enter offences on the Mountain.

For the period between November 2014 – and the end of January 2015 there have been zero substantiated reported break and enters! This is an outstanding result considering that this period is more prevalent to this type of crime. Members of the community need to remain vigilant, locking doors and windows and continue to watch out for their neighbours.

Extra police numbers on the mountain (now 8 in total) has enabled us to conduct more proactive patrols, intercepting suspicious vehicles and persons located. I believe that thieves are starting to get the message that Tamborine Mountain is not a soft target and police and community are on watch.

There were a few minor stealing and wilful damage offences, but overall crime statistics are down.

ROUNDABOUTS

The breaking of basic road rules contributes to many avoidable crashes and commonly these basic road rules are forgotten, unknown or disregarded on roundabouts.
So here is a quick refresher on roundabout rules:

Giving Way.

  • A vehicle approaching a roundabout must give way to all vehicles already on the roundabout and normal give way rules apply.

Indicating.

  • When going straight ahead there is no requirement to indicate until ready to exit (There is a common misconception that you have to indicate right when going straight, this is not the case and confuses other motorists).
  • When turning right at a roundabout you must indicate right and then indicate left to exit the roundabout.
  • When turning left you must indicate left and exit the roundabout.

SNAKES

Summer also brings out another predator...the snake. Sergeant JONES and Senior Constable EDWARDS have been busy during the warmer period with increased calls for snake relocation jobs.

Vanessa BULL also does a fantastic job of removing unwanted snakes from people’s properties. Vanessa is kindly providing an information session on snakes at the upcoming NHW meeting.
