May 2015 - Fake AFP traffic infringements

Be aware – fake AFP Infringement Notices!

Gold Coast Police have received numerous phone calls very recently in relation to an AFP Infringement Notice received via email. Gold Coast Police would like to warn all residents that this is a scam.

The scam is via an Australian Federal Police traffic fine for negligent driving. Police advise all residents who received this email to delete the message immediately.
The emails ask people to pay a fine of $150 for negligent driving by clicking on a link. This link may also contain a computer virus.

The AFP never sends out traffic infringement notices via email, so if you have received an email that claims to be from the AFP and have doubt about its authenticity, do not make a payment or provide personal details.

The fake infringement notice features the AFP logo as well as a Commonwealth of Australia 2015 copyright notice.
