Operation North Upright - motor cyclist safety

Officers from the Gold Coast police district, in conjunction with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS), Department of Transport and Main Roads and the City of Gold Coast are continuing their campaign for motorcycle safety this Sunday June 12 in the hinterland area under the banner of Operation North Upright.
Operation North Upright is a road safety campaign designed to raise awareness of the potential risks for motorcyclists using the hinterland roads within the South Eastern Region.
Sadly last year, 12 motorcyclists lost their lives on hinterland roads. Factors contributing to these crashes were speed, rider error, lack of rider experience, motorcycle visibility and collision with other vehicles.
Operation North Upright is a multifaceted road safety operation incorporating community engagement, education as well as enforcement.
Inspector Bruce Duck from Operations, South Eastern Police Region said that disappointingly, motorcyclists have been over represented in serious and fatal crashes in the area.
“I invite motorcyclists enjoying the hinterland area on June 12, to stop for a chat about road safety with experienced motorcycle officers from the Road Policing Command and other emergency services.
“This facet of the operation endeavors to inform riders about safe riding techniques through displays, demonstrations, and discussions,” said Inspector Duck.
The information for this upcoming event is:
• 7am to 2pm, Sunday June 12, 2016 at the Country Paradise Springs; 231 Nerang Beaudesert Road, Nerang
