The Honourable Jack Dempsey
Saturday, July 06, 2013

A new Fire and Rescue Station at Mount Tamborine will help keep the local community and those further afield safe for years to come.
Police and Community Safety Minister Jack Dempsey opened the $1.875 million replacement station today, and also honoured 11 medal recipients.
Mr Dempsey said the new station would help meet the needs of the growing region, while supporting the wider Gold Coast and Scenic Rim communities.
“The station has several joint operational areas including a two-bay appliance engine room and caters for 19 auxiliary firefighters,” Mr Dempsey said.
“There is also an additional four-bay appliance engine room for the 65 member Tamborine Mountain Rural Fire Brigade, as well as a purpose built training room with incident management capability and office accommodation.”
Mr Dempsey also presented Clasps associated with the National Medal recognising long service, as well as Diligent and Ethical Service Medals and Clasps.
“It’s a great honour to be here to recognise the invaluable contribution these firefighters have made to their local communities,” he said.
“These personnel should be incredibly proud of their achievements and I would like to sincerely thank them for their service and commitment to keeping the community safe.”

QFRS Commissioner Lee Johnson shared Mr Dempsey’s sentiments and acknowledged the dedication of the Auxiliary and Rural Firefighters who protect the Tamborine Mountain community, while highlighting the wider work of the region’s personnel.

“No doubt the dedication of our Auxiliary and Rural Firefighters significantly contribute to enhancing community safety here,” Mr Johnson said.

“Their dedication to the service ensures when the community calls on them, they’re ready to respond and this replacement station ensures they have the best possible resources to assist them in their life-saving work.

“The QFRS highly values opportunities to come together to recognise the achievements of our staff and personnel and all medal and clasp recipients should take the time today to reflect on their achievements.

"On behalf of the community and the service, I thank them for their commitment.”
