Neighbourhood Watch Snake presentation!

Snakes are very active currently and our treasured local snake catcher extraordinaire Vanessa Bull will be speaking at the next Neighbourhood Watch meeting at the Tamborine Mountain Golf Club at 1.30pm on Wednesday 27th November 2013. She will discuss snakes common to our environs and in particular a ‘basic snakebites 101 of what to do’ should you or someone near you get bitten! Please arrive at least five minutes early. Senior Constable Brendan Edwards is also a licensed snake handler – phone the station if you require assistance. After Vanessa’s presentation S/C Scott Guerin, Police NHW Liaison Officer will then present the crime report and answer any queries you may have of him.

Slippery when wet!

At the time of typing this, a storm has just passed and a 4WD has managed to actually flip over the Armco barriers on Tamborine-Oxenford Road opposite the church on the hill! Early reports indicate those involved have not suffered serious injuries but how these accidents continue to occur is frustrating? Please slow down in the rain or when the roads are wet! It’s the same story every time … I wasn’t speeding and the car just lost control! Safe speed is relevant to the conditions at any time and always subject to change considering the environment, atmosphere, a build up of grime etc. Please be careful this wet season.

Drink Driving

Unfortunately two drink drivers were detected during RBT in Long Road, Gallery Walk last weekend and one in particular was very much out of character for the individual. Another person was charged with drink driving last Thursday. This is certainly a stark reminder that no matter the circumstances it is not worth the risk either to innocent lives or you to drink and drive. The legal limit in Queensland for an open licensed driver is .05% and for some motorists that can equate to only one or two standard drinks in an hour. For Provisional and Heavy Vehicle drivers it is ZERO and the best measure if you do not know your body’s abilities to eliminate alcohol from your system is to not drive at all if drinking.

Reduction in Crime

I’m very happy to report that the past few weeks has seen nil incidents of burglary or unlawful entry, which is very pleasing, however we know too well to never rest on our laurels. Please continue to be vigilant good people and report suspicious vehicles and persons in our midst. Your continued support in this field has directly resulted in offenders being caught by us responding to information received and prosecuting those caught for crimes committed across South East Queensland. Thank you sincerely!

Kind regards,
Sgt Mick JONES
