Illegal mobile phone use brings double the demerits – you’ve been warned!‏

Texting and driving

It’s the dangerous habit many drivers just can’t seem to break –  and if protecting your life isn’t enough incentive to put down the phone perhaps tougher penalties will be.

The State Government has brought in double the demerit penalties for repeat offenders as of 1 September, taking a tough new stance on using your handheld device while driving.

If you’re caught twice in 12 months you’ll cop double demerit points – a $353 fine and six points!

It’s estimated 20 percent of all fatalities are caused by distraction, with texting and talking on your phone a major contributor.

It’s time we all woke up to the dangers!!!
