Warning: ATO Tax Scam

Police are urging the public to remain vigilant in light of continued Australia Taxation Office (ATO) tax scams.
In one of the latest occurrences a fraudster phoned a Beenleigh resident claiming to be from the ATO. The fraudster stated that they had a tax bill of $1,050 and that if it was not paid a warrant would be issued for the persons arrest.
‎Second Commissioner at Australian Taxation Office Geoff Leeper advised news.com.au in July, “We would never cold call you about a debt, we would never threaten jail or arrest, and our staff certainly wouldn’t behave in an aggressive manner.”
If anyone has been the victim of such an occurrence, police encourage you to contact the ATO on 132869, visit the ATO website on SCAMwatch.
