How secure are your car keys?

Police advise that residents should secure their home and vehicle to avoid opportunistic thefts. Hiding car keys and valuables will make it difficult for offenders to steal your vehicle and other property.
Consider for a moment what your car is worth to you and how you would manage should you wake up tomorrow morning and find that your car has been stolen from your home?
Thieves are targeting car keys in home break-ins due to overall improvements in car security. People don’t always secure their car keys while at home. Motorists really need to treat their keys like cash wherever they are.
Motorist with smart start devices that use a push button and a transponder to start the vehicle are urged to ensure that their vehicle is properly turned off and secured along with the transponder.
The cost of replacing a car can often be out of the reach for many. Even going without your car can be a major inconvenience, regardless if it’s your pride and joy, ready for the tip or something in between.
In some instances owners reporting stolen vehicles advise they are unable to work because they require the vehicle to get to work or their equipment they need for work was in the vehicle.
Whilst everyone has the right to feel safe in their own home and do what they want with their own property, local police are reminding residents that the reality is that we all need to secure our homes and our valuables to avoid becoming a target of opportunistic thieves.
Remove car keys from vehicles and secure them properly each time you leave the vehicle unattended.
Hiding car keys and valuables, as well as key-locking your home and vehicle will go a long way to securing your property and making it difficult for offenders to steal your valuables.
